Bratislava Symposium - January 24th - 27th, 2012

The fourth and final symposium of the pilot phase of the project took place in Bratislava, Slovakia from January 24th ΓΆ€“ 27th, 2012. The purpose of this symposium was to conduct a mock CPD accreditation audit on the MATADOR Group (the company working with the Pan European University, Bratislava as part of the project). The symposium was spread over four days to allow time for the project leaders, Engineers Ireland, to share as much knowledge as possible regarding preparing for a CPD audit, conducting a CPD Accreditation audit and writing a CPD accreditation report.

Company Overview: The Matador Group consists of four economically relatively independent companies located in Slovakia as well as in Czech Republic. Namely there are:
ΓΆ€ΒΆ Matador Automotive Vrable. This unit is oriented on production of pressed and welded serial automobile parts as well as on assembling programms.
ΓΆ€ΒΆ Matador Industries Dubnica is oriented on tools and fixtures design, production automation, welding systems and manufacturing.
ΓΆ€ΒΆ Matador Automotive Liberc is located in Czech republic. Its program is oriented on welding, assembling and logistic.
ΓΆ€ΒΆ Aufeer Design Mlada Boleslav is also located in Czech republic. Its program is concentrated on design activities and engineering and development
Total number of employees: over 1,100, of which some 185 are the professionally highly trained technicians and engineers.

Day 1: Tuesday January 24th, 2012 - Preparation for MATADOR Group audit visit

The first day of the Bratislava symposium entailed a classroom session on Criteria 7 and 8 of the CPD accredited employer standard presented by Aidan Harney, Engineers Ireland. The second part of the day 1 focused on preparation for the audit visit to the MATADOR Group on Wednesday, January 25th, 2012. An analysis of the audit checklist provided by the MATADOR Group was conducted and the roles and responsibilities for the audit were decided. For this symposium the project partners took more roles and responsibilities for the audit visit. This 'hand over' of responsibilities from Engineers Ireland to the project partners will be vital experience for each of the project partners in the implementation phase of the project.

Day 2: Wednesday January 25th, 2012 ΓΆ€“ MATADOR Group Audit Visit

The MATADOR Group audit visit was conducted by the audit panel consisting of all the project partners involved in the project. MATADOR Group supplied evidence of their current CPD practices and how they matched up against the 8 criteria of Engineers Ireland's CPD Accredited Employer Standard. Interviews of engineering/technical staff employed by MATADOR Group took place to further investigate the impact and level of CPD of the organisation.

Day 3: Thursday 26th January, 2012 - Writing of audit report

All partners convened to discuss and analyze the previous day's audit visit to the MATADOR Group. All project partners took a more active role in writing the CPD audit report. This session followed on from the experience of the previous symposia with all partners contributing to the final audit report.

Day 4: Friday 27th October, 2012 - Presentation of audit report to MATADOR Group

The auditing panel returned to MATADOR Group to present the CPD audit report to the top management of MATADOR Group. The Human Resource Director of MATADOR Group, Jaroslav Zigo, was present to receive the report and the recommendations from the audit panel.

The experience gained from this symposium will be vital for each project partner when it is time to conduct their own 'real life' CPD accreditation audit on their selected company in June 2012.

The next and final project symposium is scheduled for March 25th -30th, 2012 in Maribor, Slovenia. The purpose of this symposium is to ensure that each partner is fully equipped to roll out the CPD accredited employer standard in their respective countries. The partners will also discuss and agree upon a proposed EU model framework for the CPD accredited employer standard for the future.
