Bucharest Symposium (August 29th- September 1st, 2011)

The second symposium of the pilot phase of the project took place in Bucharest, Romania from 29th August to 1st September, 2011. The purpose of this symposium was to conduct a mock CPD accreditation audit on SEARCH CORPORATION (the company working with AGIR, Romania as part of the project). The symposium was spread over four days to allow time for the project leaders, Engineers Ireland, to share as much knowledge as possible regarding preparing for a CPD audit, conducting a CPD Accreditation audit and writing a CPD accreditation report.

Company Overview: SEARCH CORPORATION is one of the leading engineering service companies in Romania providing planning, design, consulting and management of road and air transport infrastructure. SEARCh CORPORATION employs approximately 350 people, 66.5% of whom are engineers/technicians, in 4 strategically-placed branches in Romania with 6 ongoing contracts in Moldova. SEARCH CORPORATION was set up in 1991and its founder Michael M. Stanciu, the president of the company, is a specialist with a significant experience in the road infrastructure engineering field, coordinator of numerous highway and bridge construction projects in the USA.

Day 1: Monday 29th August, 2011 - Preparation for SEARCH CORPORATION audit visit

The first day of the Bucharest symposium entailed a classroom session on Criteria 3 and 4 presented by Aidan Harney, Engineers Ireland. These classroom sessions will continue with a further two criteria focused on each of the two remaining pilot phase symposia in Slovenia and Slovakia.
The second part of the day 1 focused on preparation for the audit visit to SEARCH CORPORATION on Tuesday August 30th, 2011. An analysis of the audit checklist provided SEARCH CORPORATION was conducted and the roles and responsibilities for the audit were decided.

Day 2: Tuesday 30th August, 2011 - SEARCH CORPORATION Audit Visit

The SEARCH CORPORATION audit visit was conducted by the audit panel consisting of all the project partners involved in the project. SEARCH CORPORATION supplied evidence of their current CPD practices and how they matched up against the 8 criteria of Engineers Ireland's CPD Accredited Employer Standard. Interviews of engineering staff employed by SEARCH CORPORATION took place to further investigate the impact and level of CPD of the organisation.

Day 3: Wednesday 31st August, 2011 - Writing of audit report

All partners convened to discuss and analyze the previous day's audit visit to SEARCH CORPORATION. Aidan Harney conducted a workshop based classroom session on the most efficient way to write a CPD audit report. This session followed on from the experience of the Lisbon symposium with all partners contributing to the final audit report

Day 4: Thursday 1st September, 2011 - Presentation of audit report to SEARCH CORPORATION

The auditing panel returned to SEARCH CORPORATION to present the CPD audit report to the top management of SEARCH CORPORATION. The Founder and President of SEARCH CORPORATION, Michael M. Stanciu, was present to receive the report and the recommendations from the audit panel. He openly expressed his enthusiasm to become the first CPD Accreditated Employer in Romania.

The experience gained from this symposium will be vital for each project partner when it is time to conduct their own 'real life' CPD accreditation audit on their selected company in June 2012.

The next project symposium is scheduled for October 25th - 28th, 2011 in Maribor, Slovenia.
