Dublin Symposium (November 30th - December 3rd, 2010)

On November 30th to December 3rd 2010, Engineers Ireland hosted a four day symposium in Dublin, Ireland. Each participating partner was represented by at least one member of their organisation for the duration of the symposium. The purpose of this symposium was to transfer as much knowledge as possible of the Engineers Ireland CPD Accreditation Standard to the participating partners in the project. This was achieved by combining a classroom style introduction to Engineers Ireland's CPD Accreditation standard with firsthand experience of actual CPD Accreditation audit visits.

Day 1: November 30th, 2010

In order to give the participating partners a full understanding of the CPD Accredited Employer Standard, Aidan Harney, Engineers Ireland CPD Director, presented an introductory session on the CPD Accredited Employer Standard.

Day 2: December 1st, 2010

To give each partner a feel for a CPD accreditation audit, a re-accreditation audit visit was set up with DBFL Consulting Engineers. DBFL were fully accredited a year prior to this visit and so it is customary to revisit CPD Accredited Employers to re-accredit them based on their current level of CPD practices and if they have acted on the recommendations that Engineers Ireland audit team had pointed to DBFL at their CPD Accreditation audit a year ago.

Each partner sat in on the re-accreditation audit which was conducted by Dee Kehoe, Engineers Ireland CPD Executive. It was essential that each partner acquired some firsthand experience of a real CPD audit as they themselves will be conducting a CPD audit on their selected firms later in the project.

Day 3: December 2nd, 2010

On Day 3 of the symposium, we visited the Irish Air Corps. The purpose of this visit was to identify how the Irish Air Corps have benefited from achieving the CPD accredited employer standard and what processes and practices they have put in place to maximise the potential returns from the CPD accredited employer standard.

Day 4: December 3rd, 2010

The symposium was concluded with a brief wrap up session outlining the lessons learned from the symposium and the next steps for the project.
